Underactive and Weight Gain
« on: June 08, 2009, 07:54:10 AM »
When my thyroid decided to go underactive I gained about a stone in weight. While the thyroid has been unstable for a while it seems to have settled now. But no weight loss. Does it ever just come off again?

Hiya Shell,

oh the joys of hypothyroidism and FM in combination.  The weight should/may come off IF your thyroid meds are optimised, this means at the right level for you as an individual  which is very different from being within the 'normal range'
It'll also be harder to come off than it was to put on

take care

Hi Shell and Shan, I too gained over a stone! What really annoys me is the fact that I was not diagnosed until about five years after the problem started . It took two cans of red bull to give me energy to cook suppper. I shall never forget that dreadly fatigue. now It's sorted in as much as I live a restricted life but can do what needs doing except during a flare up. The Lyrica has given me a half stone to add to the bulk. All the weight is on top i.e. shoulders bust and tum, it is very difficult to shift that weight. I remember with sadness that petite pretty confident active little lass that was me and I miss her...... :shake:

Hey Celine - I know that feeling all too well.

I hate the fact that I can't shift the post thyroid weight

I've lately being daydreaming about being able to go to a gym and have a lovely toned body....a pipe dream only

i have that dream even tried to do it on a good day. it felt great. you should try the health wise scheme. you get in free to a leisure center for 12 weeks and a fitness instructor to give you exercise,s to help you with fibro.
dont be alarmed i was doing it until i had a relapse i only had to do 5mins on bike and 5mins in pool. beleive me that was more than enough

Hi Ryroma ,

Just read your thread and was wondering what the "health wise scheme" was all about? I have been unable to exercise for about 6 years and would like to undertake a realistic programme and preferably under supervision.

Thanks,

Lynn

you can only get it on prescription from your doctor. the idea is to build up your fitness and get you out and about. because we cant spend long exercising it workd well . you not spending big money to use the place for 10mins. ask your doctor about it. you can only use council centers so you need to know what one you want to go to
